Did you miss me?

One of my readers got in touch with me the other day to let me know that they were a bit worried. They had gotten used to waking up in the morning and getting an email with the latest blog post in it, and enjoying a good read or even a good discussion in the comments before they head off to work. But I haven’t written anything since the 29th April, and they discovered that they missed getting the blog posts.

It was lovely to get their email to find out what was going on. I reassured them everything was fine, I’ve just been hella busy!

Well, I should clarify that. I haven’t been that busy at home, but I have been at work. And the result has been that I haven’t wanted to DO anything after getting home. I just want to relax.

You know how it works – if you’re not doing anything interesting with your life, it’s very difficult to actually write anything interesting. And so I just haven’t. An interesting life creates interesting writing.

I think it’s going to be a while before I have an interesting life again.

However, you don’t really have to have an interesting life to have something interesting to write about. Ultimately it’s about motivation. I distract my mind after work so that I don’t have to think, because I think so much at work. I lack motivation when I get home, because I so easily embrace the distraction, which is computer gaming.

So as of today, I’ve decided to ban computer gaming for a while. (I do this every now and again.) Without gaming to distract me after work, I’ll have to find something else to distract me! This is likely to be a few things:

  1. More time with my wife (she’ll be happy!), and
  2. More time to read, which will inspire me to
  3. Write more

So yes, I think you’ll see more of me after today.

Thanks for reading! Please add your own thoughts below.
