Small world, or fate?

Sometimes, I don’t think the world can be as small as it seems to be. Sometimes something happens which just throws you.

I went with Deidre tonight to a function her organisation put on for its various departments. There must have been over 500 people there. That’s a lot of people in one large room. There were a lot of tables for people to sit at. Deidre and I sat at a free table near the back. After a short while some other people joined us. And that’s where it got interesting.

A woman, Cath, sat opposite me with her friends. It was random, as the chairs weren’t occupied, and none of them knew Deidre. Completely random. Except maybe it wasn’t.

Cath turned out to be Australian. From Canberra. She used to go out with Scot, my close friend who I worked with and for from 1997 – 2000. She went out with him from 2000 – 2003, and we met briefly when I stayed with him in September 2000, when I went back to Canberra for a brief holiday.

Out of all the tables, and all the people, this one person sat opposite me who has that connection with me.

That’s not coincidence. That’s fate.

We exchanged business cards before we parted towards the end of the evening. As far as I’m concerned, there’s a reason we met, and I’m wondering what it might end up being.
