So much has happened

It’s been about 7 weeks since I last posted on this blog. In that time, so much has happened, it’s just been a whirlwind of awesomeness.

I met a wonderful woman in Melbourne and I’ve been astounded by how right she is for me. Her name is Fanfan, and she’s the dream that I’ve had in my mind for many years, finally come to life. And speaking of life, it’s never going to be the same again. I’ve fallen in love with her, and she’s taking me in a direction I never thought possible. I’ll write more about that in a future post.

I bought the FJ Cruiser, but it won’t be delivered until around October. I have so many ideas about what to do with it, and where I’m going to go in it. It’s going to be great! I’ll have to do some 4WD courses so that I know what I’m doing with it… It’s a real pain in the ass that I have to wait so long for it!

I was invited to China by friends, and I decided to accept their invitation. I had 2 months notice, so I’ve had to organise getting a new passport because my old one expired last year, as well as arranging a Visa to China. Do you have any idea how long I’ve been dreaming about going to China? A very long time, that’s how long… And what’s even better is that Fanfan will be coming with me. She’ll be my guide and translator, ’cause she’s Chinese too. That’s going to be so cool…

I’ve started working with Information Security, and I’m loving it. There’s a crap-load of stuff to learn, but I’m really excited about the opportunities it can give me.

I might be leaving Canberra and moving to Melbourne. Because Fanfan lives there, I decided to move there myself, to make things easier for her (so she doesn’t have to move), and to symbolically start a new life for myself. However, once I made the decision and started looking for work, the universe started to conspire against me to keep me here in Canberra.

A possible transfer to a Melbourne job didn’t go ahead, and I’ve found that taking a permanent job would provide me with a significant pay cut that I’m not happy with. At the same time, I was told that I’m a ‘key member’ of the team that I’m working with now, and I got the distinct feeling that they wouldn’t want to see me move on. The work is great, and it has some fantastic opportunities for my future, that leaving it would be a real disadvantage for me right now.

Fanfan has been wonderful. She seems to understand the importance of what I’m doing in relation to my life and my career, and she also appreciates that it can provide us with better opportunities in future because of the significantly greater income than what I would get if i went to Melbourne.

So if I decide to stay, then she will be moving here to be with me. I know how much of a sacrifice that’s going to be for her, and I’m honored by her wanting to be with me, regardless of where we are. I can only do my best to make sure I’m worth it.

In such a short time, her and I have become so close. We’ve already started planning a future together. When we go to China I’m going to be meeting her parents. Yes, I know. 🙂

Life is pretty amazing right now.
