Seek the light

seekthelight

My spiritual journey has gone through a number of phases and had its ups and downs over the past 25 years. It feels like I’m entering a new stage of it now. I took a break from Facebook for a few days to clear my head, and that turned out to be of immense value. I realised that I was getting too caught up in the distractions of social media’s outraged presentation of the world, and taking a break (even only for a few days) helped me see that I needed to make some significant changes in my life to break away from the angry and fearful darkness that everyone else is getting caught up in.

So I went back to Facebook last night and cleared out everything in my profile’s history (at least over the past year or so) that has been involved in contributing to the darkness, and I unfollowed every person, page or group that was doing the same. I added a few new pages that seem to share the light, and I’ll look into making sure that I do the same. If something isn’t contributing to light, love, peace, humour and personal growth, then it’s not going to be part of my reality.

I feel pretty strongly that this is something I need to do. Move away from the darkness that I’ve been so caught up in over the past few years, and back into the light.

It’s been an amazing week. Letting go of the darkness is going to be rewarding. Don’t get me wrong, the light can’t be seen without the contrast of the darkness. They coexist, equally as valid as each other, equally part of our reality. But we can embrace one side or another.

George Lucas had it right when he ‘invented’ the Force in his Star Wars movies. There’s a Force at work – an energy – in our reality, underlying everything that we do, everything that we are, and everything we choose. We have both the light and the dark within us, and with diligence we can keep them somewhat neutral. Without consideration, we can fall towards the dark, but with hard work and discipline we can seek out and embrace the light.

I need to work harder.
