A friend visited me tonight, who is also a reader of this blog. We had a good catch-up, which included talking about my blog posts. He mentioned that this blog is like my journal, a personal diary, which means it’s a bit difficult to engage in discussion because it’s simply about my opinion on things. How do you debate with someone over their diary entries?
I was thankful for the feedback, and it helped me realise that I really should change how I write. I should be focusing on a more positive outcome from the observation. If I don’t like something, then I should talk about why I don’t like it and how I think things could be improved.
Being a bit more helpful – or at least trying to – will, I think, naturally create better opportunities for discussion. If I think something should be a particular way because of…. then it allows people to disagree and provide their own opinions about how something can be improved.
I like that. It’s partly what I was trying to do a couple years ago when I was writing for Think Wisely, and I think it’s going to be something I’ll explore more in future.
